Definition
The Present Progressive (or Present Continuous) is a verb tense used to describe actions happening right now, actions that are temporary, or actions happening around the present time.

Structure

  • Affirmative: Subject + am/is/are + Verb + -ing

Example: "She is reading a book."

  • Negative: Subject + am/is/are + not + Verb + -ingExample: "They are not playing soccer."
    Interrogative: Am/Is/Are + Subject + Verb + -ing?

Example: "Are you studying now?"

Uses

  • Actions happening right now:

Example: "I am talking to you."

  • Temporary actions:

Example: "He is staying at his friend's house this week."

  • Future arrangements:

Example: "We are meeting at 7 PM."
Repeated actions (with always, constantly, etc.):

Example: "You are always forgetting your keys!"
